- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Recipes are occasionally inaccurate! (review from a teen using book) : I generally enjoy baking and the final product. However, Whenever I try a recipe from this book, I either don't enjoy making it because I have a hard time doing so or I don't enjoy the final product. The 2 recipes I have tried are the lemon pudding cake and raspberry melt aways. I had fun with the pudding cake, especially when it came to zesting the lemon, but I did not enjoy the cake itself. The melt aways are good but the recipe is inaccurate. The glaze calls for 2 cups of confectioners sugar but that is way too much, and we ended up having to double the amount of juice we used. The entire recipe in all took me about four hours to make. All in all, my mom and I agree that this book is more of a book that is meant to sit on a shelf on display and look pretty, rather than being useful. If you're looking for a book with easy recipes that will not take a ridiculously long time to make to purchase for your teen, I would not recommend this book. - 4.0 out of 5 stars from Alison Dejonge -- Great book, but some recipes don't work and there are no pictures : This book is, for the most part, good and has many recipes I want to try, but some of the recipes don't work, such as the flourless double chocolate cookies. I followed the recipe exactly, but these cookies were weird and not that good tasting. They were over-chocolatey, so if you make these I would recommend adding less cocoa powder, and they were a bad texture, so I would also recommend adding flour if you're not allergic to gluten. I also made the banana bread recipe from this book which turned out to be delicious, but I would not make the flourless double chocolate cookies from this book again without altering some of the ingredients. This book had recipes at her level. I let her open it a few days before Christmas because she and her friend were bored during school break. They made the lemon bars which were delicious! Like others have said the thing that would have made this stellar would be photographs. I would have been willing to pay more for the book if they had invested in photography. I wanted real dessert! This book kicked her into gear on using all the butter and flour I had been stockpiling for this long awaited and hope filed day. My patience and diligence has paid off, and I can testify to you easy bake oven abused dads, that there is hope, and that hope can be found in this colorful collection of sensational recipes. Photos really do bring recipes out of the page and inspire you to get cooking. My daughters are aged 13 and 11 and easily made the giant pretzels together yesterday. Has been cooking almost independently and loves the levels as she can start off easy and get harder. However, it is American so some phrases differ to an English cookbook and measurements done in cups but this is easily fixed with the right equipment.
